چکیده

The literature on positron emission tomography and computed tomography using (18)fluoro-deoxyglusose (FDG-PET/CT) in the diagnosis of pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is presented. Only five papers representing independent studies were identified and included in this review. Of these, two studies dealt with both stand-alone FDG-PET and FDG-PET/CT, while three were about stand-alone FDG-PET only. No studies could be found that focused on FDG-PET/CT only. The five studies comprised analysis of a total 181 pediatric patients (0-18 years of age). They unanimously indicated that FDG-PET/CT is a versatile method with a diagnostic high sensitivity ranging from 70% to 97%. In conclusion, the pediatric literature on FGD-PET/CT's role in the diagnosis of IBD is very limited. Prospective studies of well characterized populations are needed in order to validate this novel imaging modality in pediatric IBD.

The Study of Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Ulcerative Colitis

Background and aims: In diagnosing inflammatory bowel disease, one of diagnostic way is upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, which helps in differential diagnosis of unspecified colitis as well. The aim of this study was to investigate the necessity of upper gastrointestinal endoscopy in patients with inflammatory bowel disease.   Materials and Methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional...

Assessment of Serum Amino Acid Chromatography in Children with Inflammatory Bowel Diseases

Background: Given the important role of amino acids in regulating many metabolic pathways of the body and considering the scarcity of markers for the diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and its differentiation, we aimed to investigate the status of serum amino acids chromatography in children with IBD. Materials and Methods This case-control study was conducted among children with pri...

Noninvasive assessment of pediatric inflammatory bowel disease with ¹⁸F-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography and computed tomography.

OBJECTIVES ¹⁸F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography (PET) is a less invasive diagnostic tool and promising in detecting gastrointestinal lesions of pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients. Co-registration of low-dose computed tomography (CT) could lead to improvements in the assessment of disease. Therefore, this retrospective study evaluates the value of PET±CT in ...

Effects of Probiotics and Prebiotics in Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) including most important forms; Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC); are chronic diseases affecting the gastrointestinal tract with unclear etiology and pathology. The role of gut microbiota has recently been considered as major a factor, since altered microbiome or "dysbiosis" is a key player in the protracted course of inflammation in IBD. Howeve...

Triage of Limited Versus Extensive Disease on 18F-FDG PET/CT Scan in Small Cell lung Cancer

Objective(s): Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive neuroendocrine carcinoma, which accounts for 10-15% of pulmonary cancers and exhibits early metastatic spread. This study aimed to determine the added value of 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging in tumor, node, and metastasis (TNM) staging of SCLC, compared to the conventional computed tomography (CT) scan and its potential role as a prognosticat...
